Affordable Ways To Increase the Value of Your Home

Home Value

Every property needs to be maintained properly. Your home is the place in which you spend most of your time, and you need to maintain it to keep its value. This aspect of maintenance becomes especially important if you plan to sell the house in the future. By doing this, your house will retain most of its value, and you will get a better deal for it if you choose to sell. So, here are some of the things that you can do to your house to increase its value:

Tips to increase the value of your home

Paint The property

You will be surprised at the results a simple paint job can achieve. Firstly, painting is not super expensive and makes a big difference. You can use colours in so many creative ways. If you have a smaller house, you can use colours such as dark blue or clean white. These colours create optical illusions as they make the space feel bigger. Other than that, through history, colour has been a status symbol, and purple has been known as the “colour of kings”. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying colour your house purple; I am just suggesting ideas to you.

The main point is to be creative and experiment with palettes of colours. See what is the best suit for you. Before you begin painting, I strongly advise you to make a plan. Put every idea on paper and see how much it costs and how much time it requires. The time frame is especially important as you will need to find a new home for those few days. When you start, always go one room at a time, as this will allow you to focus on the job. Remember that half the job is in preparation. If you make a good plan and stick to it, the results will surely follow.

Update The Kitchen

The kitchen is the main point of the house. If you are planning to sell your house in the future, this is the place you need to invest the most. A good-looking kitchen will sell the house quickly. So, if you desire to increase the value of your property, you will likely need to remodel your kitchen. Don’t worry about the cost, as there are many things that you can do yourself. For example, if you have a “wooden kitchen,” you can sand down the wood to give it a new shine. This is going to make a big difference in the overall look.

Besides that, you can try to repaint the walls and maybe even add some tiles to the wall to protect it from the stains that can build up from cooking. Make sure that you fix or replace all of the broken stuff. Throw away everything that is broken; if you don’t do that, the junk will only stack up, and you will never get something new. This factor is important as it reflects on the overall appearance of the kitchen. My advice for you is to buy one thing at a time. By doing this, you will divide your costs in the way that is most comfortable for you.

Remodel The Bathroom

The bathroom should be your next stop. The kitchen and the bathroom are the two main parts of the house. These two rooms are the most expensive to remodel, but they also add the most value to the property. There are not many things that you can do to change the appearance of the bathroom on a budget, so you are going to spend some money on redecorating. The one thing that you can do by yourself is the cleaning of the tiles. Bathroom tiles can last for a very long time; this is the reason why they are used in the first place. Go and buy a cleaning solution for your bathroom tiles; if you don’t want to do that, I even have a solution for that.

You can make your cleaning solution by combining baking soda and liquid soap with some water. If the solution is not powerful enough, you can add vinegar to it. Just make sure that you use gloves while cleaning, as these chemicals can damage the skin on your hands. If you manage to give your tiles new life, this will greatly change the appearance of the bathroom. You can change things such as shower curtains, mirrors, handles, etc. Again, if you have anything broken, replace it, as it will only decrease the overall value of your property.

The Garden

This garden makes the first impression of your home. You can create a lot of value for your home just by being creative. Here, you don’t have any real expenses, except for the time you will use up for work. So, to begin, you need to have a decent-looking garden. Everything must be tidy and in order, and this is the foundation for the fondue. The next thing to do is to add flowers, and you should try to experiment with different types of flowers and different colours. By adding green life to your garden, you will make it more appealing.

Try to create a relaxing place. After all, home is the place where you should feel safe and cozy. You can also add night lights to your garden. This can change the look of the garden, as you can use them to highlight certain places. You can put them next to the flower, on the fence, or even in the middle. You can play around with it until you find the style that you like the most. If you are looking to buy garden lights, I can recommend the brand “Hoselink,” which I am familiar with. You can go to their website to choose the garden lights, and my recommendation is that you opt for the solar ones. This will cut down your electric bill, which is a bonus in itself.

Besides this, you can make a play area for the kids. This is a good thing to do if you are planning to sell your house in the future, as the new buyers will probably be a couple looking to start a family.

Interior Desing

Pay attention to the interior look of the house. There are a lot of things that you can change and add to increase the value of your house. This will cost a bit, as you will need new furniture and objects to put in your home. If you can replace all of the old furniture, do so; if that is not an option, then opt to give the existing ones a new look. If your couch’s colour is fading, try a deep clean to bring that old colour back. This can also be done by hand, but it takes much more time. Besides that, try to add paintings or pictures to your walls. You can opt to make your house more colourful by adding pictures of your family or by adding drawings that your children made. This will be a great conversation starter if you have guests.

You can use your imagination and the things that you already have to give your house a new look. For example, you can use your books as decorations in your living room. I did that, and I love it because every book is a story in itself, and everyone has a certain memory attached to it.

House

Floor Surface

The last thing on this list is the floors. First, do you have carpets all around the house or do you have wooden floors or any other type of floor? I will start with carpets.

They tend to get dirty fast, and they can be a bit difficult to maintain. So, if you have carpeted flooring, you should try to give it new life. This will make your house look more appealing. Before you start cleaning, I suggest you use a vacuum cleaner to remove debris that is stuck in the carpet. When you have finished, we can start cleaning the carpets.  Buy a carpet cleaning solution and start slowly. Remember to move from one side to the other. If you start from the left, keep going until you have finished the job. If you have finished and the carpets do not look like you wanted them to, you should consider buying new ones. This will cost you more, but in the end, it will be broken.

Let’s move on; if you have a wooden floor, we can do a lot more. Wooden floors tend to last very long, and even when they look like crap, we can still sand them down. So, I love wooden floors, but they are so hard to maintain. When you sand them down, you will need to varnish them. The only negative thing about this is that it takes so much time. But when done in the right way, the results can be astounding. The wooden floor is going to look and feel like new.

If your floor is made from materials such as rock, granite, or marble. The only thing that you can do is try to apply some substance that will polish it up a bit and give it a new shine. These types of floors always look great, and they last a lifetime. They practically go with any style you can imagine and are always classy.
